Mary Carpenter Brennan Inc. was founded in 1956 by Mary Carpenter Brennan following a long active career in Community and Public Service. In addition to being the first woman elected to the State Legislature from Somers, she was one of the founders of the Somers Cub Scouts, a member of the original High School Building Committee, president of The Women's Club, and a charter member of the Historical Society. She served as the first woman president of the North Central Connecticut Board of Realtors and was selected as their Realtor of The Year 1971. Following the passing of the founder in 1977, Jude Brennan returned to real estate following a career in public service. He has been an energetic participant in the Realtor community and a strong advocate of private property rights on a State and National level. He has served as Board President twice and was twice selected by his peers as board Realtor of The Year, in 1982 and 1987. He chaired the State Legislative Committee for two years and was elected President of The 18,000 member Connecticut Association of Realtors in 1989.He has served as Chairman and Vice chairman of both the land Use and Property Rights Committee and the Housing and Community Development Committee of the National Association of Realtors. He has also served as a National Director for over 10 years. He was selected by his peers to represent New England as NAR Regional Vice President for 1996, and sit on the National Association Executive Committee. During this period he also earned the nationally recognized professional designations of Certified Residential Specialist [CRS], and Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager [CRB], in addition to Graduate of The Realtors Institute. He served as an instructor in the areas of Agency Relations, Ethics, and Risk Reduction. Jude is a member and past president of the Somers Rotary Club, past president of the Crescent Lake Tax District and a trustee of Johnson Memorial Hospital. Carmela Brennan has been a partner in the firm since 1978. She specializes in residential listings and sales, and is among the first in the State to earn the nationally recognized Accredited Buyer Representative designation. She is deeply involved in leadership of community-wide volunteer organizations, as Johnson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she is current and past president. She has organized and chaired a variety of successful fund raising activities. She is current chairman of Crescent Lake Tax District Lake Management Committee and is on the advisory board of Rockville Bank. She and Jude are both graduates of the University of Connecticut.
